SAN FRANCISCO – Consul general of India in San Francisco N Parthasarathi has appreciated the signing of two bills by California governor Edmund G Brown, the first pertaining to workplace religious freedom and the second to revised curriculum in schools to include material on Sikh religion.

The move would augur well for hard working and industrious people of Indian origin, he said adding it would go a long way in promoting goodwill and awareness about various communities including the Sikh community.

“These will pave the way for school children in California to learn about various religions including the Sikh religion,” he added.

In a statement issued by his office, the Indian consul general said that the bills would acknowledge the religious freedom in workplace and authorize the state board to consider the adoption of a revised curriculum framework & evaluation criteria for instructional materials in history-social science respectively.

Parthasarthi also participated in the peace and unity rally organized by North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) on Saturday at Sacramento.

He appreciated the initiative by NAPA to hold the peace and unity rally in which not only Sikhs but people from other faiths also participated and paid homage to those killed in Oak Creek Gurudwara shooting.

Meanwhile, NAPA president Satnam Singh Chahal said that this joining of rally of Indian community by the Consul General has helped to reduce the gap between the community and senior Indian officials as earlier people have been facing indifferent attitude of the official machinery in Indian consulates.
