Chandigarh: The North American Punjabi Association on Sunday condemned the violent attack on an NRI in Amritsar by two assailants, describing the incident as ‘deeply troubling.’

Sukhchain Singh was attacked by two individuals in front of his family at his home in Daburji village on Saturday. Singh, who had recently returned from the US, was shot in front of his wife and two children.

Chahal emphasized the need for serious attention to prevent further incidents and restore confidence among the NRI community. ‘Steps should be taken to address the root causes of these attacks and bolster the safety and security of all residents and visitors in Punjab,’ he added.

On Saturday, Singh was intercepted outside his house by two motorcycle-borne assailants asking about his luxury car’s registration documents. Before Singh could react, the assailants forcibly took him inside his house and fired three shots at him. Singh, who sustained bullet wounds to his head and chest, was rushed to a private hospital and is currently out of danger.

On Sunday, police arrested five people, including Singh’s first wife’s father, in connection with the attack. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the two perpetrators who directly attacked Singh.
