Amritsar: The North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) has claimed that the attacks on members of the Sikh community in developed countries were not result of mistaken identity, but violent incidents, which had occurred in the Golden Temple and videos being circulated on internet.

Addressing mediapersons here today, association president Satnam Singh Chahal said if the attacks were result of mistaken identity then these must have been much more on Muslims, which was not the case.

He said they were spreading the message that the Sikhs were a peaceful community, who believed in co-existence. However, their efforts go waste when images of some Sikh persons clashing with kirpans and opening fire in the Golden Temple were circulated across the World. He added that it raised suspicion against the Sikh community living abroad.

He said members of the NAPA were from the USA and Canada and they would financially and politically support those leaders in the 2017 Assembly elections in the state, who had proven record of good governance. He ruled out supporting any political party.
